A day in the life of a homekeeping expert

First, obviously, I tumble out of bed, stumble to the kitchen, and pour myself a cup of ambition. Or three.

Next, I’m out the door to my first client’s house. Tasks vary, but in a three-hour shift, I can fold and put away several loads of laundry, unload and reload the dishwasher, wash any dishes in the sink, and wipe down surfaces in the kitchen.

I’ll then tidy up toys, papers, hair ties, and the goldfish crackers the toddler spilled and then ground into the rug. I might dust, sweep, and/or vacuum the main living areas, and wipe fingerprints off the storm doors. Perhaps my client has been meaning to go through the fridge for weeks but hasn’t had time, so I’ll throw out leftovers and expired goods and put the Tupperware in the dishwasher. On my way out, I’ll grab the trash and bring it outside.

Client #2 of the day is SO TIRED of never having groceries in the house and eating takeout way too much. So she’s tasked me with shopping for and preparing the week’s meals. In four hours, I can shop for and put away groceries and prepare a delicious menu of meals the client has selected. I happily chop, saute, simmer, and roast. Then I label everything with reheating/serving instructions and put it all in the fridge or freezer. Finally, I wash the dishes and wipe down the kitchen.

My clients return home to a tidy house and/or a Crock-Pot meal ready for them to eat, and look forward to a relaxing evening. After dinner, they eye the dishes in the sink and wonder if maybe they should see if I can come back tomorrow.
